The 2001 material is fantastic and very well represented by various manufacturers. The Portland show may not be the paragon concert of the ‘01 leg, but the material and title shouldn't be so easily dismissed. Some of the songs could certainly be tighter, but that isn't something you can lay off on TMR. The recording is excellent, and indeed there are some definite highlights. One Too Many Mornings is outstanding, as is Not Dark Yet! The energy and emotion that Dylan infuses into this version is so magical, that one would be hard pressed to find a recording that conveys the sentiments of the piece any better. In fact, Dylan is running the whole show on all cylinders undoubtedly fueled by his band. There are a lot of great 01 shows…to say this title unequivocally doesn't belong in your CD rack isn't accurate. And aesthetically, its a snappy little package as well. © 2005 Keith Schweiger / bobsboots.com |
