It draws heavily from the new Time Out Of Mind release of fourteen weeks earlier. The arrangements of the new songs (particularly Not Dark Yet) are in the early stages of live adaptation. For that reason alone, it's worth a listen. The other new songs are great versions, however, it's an outstanding performance of the rarely played This Wheel's On Fire that steals the show. Some wonderful filler tracks from the Madison Square Garden residency of January 16th & 18th make this an excellent representation of early 1998. Simple Twist Of Fate has a unique phrasing that makes it stand out, and One Too Many Mornings is beautifuly and powerfully executed. Package aesthetics are clean and concise, if not a tad simplistic. © 2002 M McGarr / CD Pinkerton bobsboots.com |
