Review:
The historical importance of the Witmark Demos cannot be overstated. They belong in every serious collection. They were performed in the publisher's New York office (and a few in CBS studio NY) only to document a recorded version of each song for publishing and demonstration. Mainly recorded during July 1962 and early 1963, there were also a few recorded in 1964. The casual fan might find the recordings a little stiff and uninspired because of their origin and purpose. The quality is great, however. This set represents the known office recordings. Great looking sepia toned cover. The tracks are put into the random order as listed by Michael Krogsgaard. A slightly nicer release by Capricorn is entitled simply 'The Witmark Years'. It's long been the practice to name a Dylan boot release by using an obscure song title or line from a song. This title comes from a line in Eternal Circle.

Tracks 10,11 disc 1 & 17 disc 2 -  Dylan on Piano. Oddly track 18 on disc  2 is not the piano version from the Witmark, but the studio outtake on guitar from Another Side session NY 6-9-64.
Tracks 1,2,3,12,14,17 d1 & 4,13 d2 were released on a very rare one sided promo LP from Warner Bros.7 Arts

Tracks 10,11 d1 & 13 d2 were released on the official CBS LP 'Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3.
