source: Avignon, France July 25, 1981 Tracks: Ballad Of A Thin Man In The Summertime Shot Of Love Lucky Old Sun (Regina Havis) The Times Let's Begin (Jim Webb) Lenny Bruce Saved I Believe In You Like A Rolling Stone 'Til I Get It Right (Lane/Henly)(Regina Havis) Man Gave Names To All The Animals Maggie's Farm Girl Of The North Country Review: This Front Row release presents only the first half of this French show. A wonderful performance, and very good quality. The problems are... even though this is the first half of the full concert, a mistake with the source cassette tape renders the songs out of order. The show starts off with Saved. After Girl Of The North Country, skip up to the beginning of the disc to Ballad Of A Thin Man, and you have the performance order. The aesthetics shoot for the elegant look of a fine leather bound book. Complete with a rose motif, and sprays of faux gold leaf. While it might have been a classy looking book, the lack of any Dylan photos makes it hard to justify the price to those interested in the packaging. The entire discussion is academic, however, as this release was made obsolete the following year with the release of Avignon. This disc, therefore, is now only of value to the completeist. © 2002 Craig Pinkerton Bobsboots.com |
