At first glance, the artwork looks like a b&w reproduction of the Scorpio set, but the same artwork and fonts have been used in a very slightly different layout, partly because there's an extra track before the acoustic set. It's a 1:08 soundcheck version of Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues that fades in and then stops suddenly when the musicians stop playing. Though it's not been proven conclusively that it actualy comes from the same day, it certainly does sound like the same personnel... and it is from a sound check (the levels change as they play). Dylan sounds ten times as stoned as he does in the concert, until you realise that (most probably) the tape is running slow. This one track possibly comes from a vinyl source, as there are some crackles. There's a picture of a fly or beetle where the scorpion should be, and the words "Made in Yugoslavia" and "(c) 1996 DPP Unauthorised Duplication is Prohibited by Federal Law." Insert and tray are textured card and the insert is a single sheet, blank on the back (without the extra photos). The sound on this one is breathtakingly good, particularly on the acoustic set. I don't think anyone could seriously claim it's "better" than the official release in any objective sense, but perhaps it is just a bit more atmospheric. Oh, and on this version you lose the excerpt of "God Save The Queen" at the end. © 2003 Colmx / CD Pinkerton Bobsboots.com |
